Mission literacy for women in Madagascar
Women's Association, RIANALA, in the Village of MORAFENO, MADAGASCAR, 2 weeks in March 2015
In July 2014 is created the association of women WAHGYI in the village of MORAFENO. This association is aimed at the improvement of the living conditions of women in the village who are mostly "pebbles breakers" and who win the day the day what remain for them and their families, often many. Access to education is also complicated, and the association has appealed to the International Cooperation Institute (here) based in Madagascar in order to benefit from the regular sending of french volunteers who give french adult literacy classes to women and which make them also do manual activities (sewing, embroidery and knitting…).
During my mission I therefore managed 2 groups of 7 women for 4 days each, I did 3 hours of french lessons in the morning and 3 hours ' activity knit the afternoon. We have closed my stay by a kitchen workshop. I was impressed by the involvement of these women and their desire to evolve, their good mood despite the difficulties they face. All, including those who could neither read nor write, were hardworking and very participatory. This was the opportunity for a strong Exchange, slices of shared lives, and outstanding memories, short a beautiful experience!
